SHORTS INTERNATIONAL AND INGROOVES RELEASE SPINAL TAP’S NEW SHORT FILM
“ STONEHENGE: ' TIS A MAGIC PLACE ”
EXCLUSIVELY ON iTUNES STARTING TODAY

August, 25, 2009 – In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the cult classic film, “This is Spinal Tap,” Shorts International and INgrooves today have released Spinal Tap’s new short film, “Stonehenge: 'Tis A Magic Place.” The film is available to download exclusively from iTunes starting today for $1.99.

The seven minute short marks iTunes' first original film, where Spinal Tap, having put Stonehenge on the map in their legendary song about the world heritage site, pay their first visit to the monument. As if drawn by some primal, magnetic force, Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls set out on a pilgrimage to this ancient site. The silent song of these mysterious lithic Sirens inspires the distinguished artistes to make a trans-generational house-call.

iTunes is featuring "Stonehenge: 'Tis A Magic Place" alongside the original "This is Spinal Tap" film, available digitally in HD for the first time, as well as all three of the band's albums including their new "Back from the Dead."

The iTunes distribution of “Stonehenge: ‘Tis a Magic Place” follows the recent release of the Blu-ray DVD version of the original cult film classic, “This is Spinal Tap,” as well as Spinal Tap’s “Back from the Dead” album release this past June and the upcoming September 1stDVD release of the recent concert tour, “Unwigged & Unplugged: An Evening with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer” – all commemorating the 25th anniversary of the original Spinal Tap movie, which was theatrically released in 1984.

“We’re excited about this opportunity to partner with iTunes and INgrooves to distribute cutting-edge content to film lovers and Spinal Tap fans throughout the world,” said Carter Pilcher, Chief Executive of Shorts International.

“We all jumped at the opportunity to participate in a novel and ground-breaking way with Spinal Tap,” commented Robb McDaniels, President and Chief Executive Officer, INgrooves. "The resulting short movie is simply spectacular and the culmination of months of hard work for all involved.”

Back From The Dead – The Return Of Spinal Tap, BBC Radio 2
Click to Listen

BBC Radio 2 has commissioned radio documentary Back From The Dead – The Return Of Spinal Tap. Respected rockumentarian Peter Curran joins the three iconic and influential band members in the studio for a playback of tracks from their new long-awaited album, Back From The Dead, 25 years after the release of the seminal rockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap.

Peter said: "When I heard that legendary rock outfit Spinal Tap had reformed again, I leapt at the chance to make this documentary for Radio 2. And having done it, I can promise you more than a sniff of these visionaries in Spandex." In the hour-long documentary broadcast on Saturday 20 June, Peter travels to Washington DC, Baltimore and a rehab facility in the Deep South to visit each of the band members – David St Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls – to catch up as they prepare to reform once again. He finds out what they've been up to since their brief appearance at London's Live Earth concert in July 2007 where they performed their song, Warmer Than Hell.

Lewis Carnie, Head of Programmes for Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: "There are key moments in cultural history and the reformation of Spinal Tap will be one of them. I'm delighted that Radio 2 has scored such a huge exclusive and I know fans will turn their volumes up to eleven to enjoy this rockumentary."

Nigel Tufnel said: "Who's this for? Radio 2? Mmm yes, I quite like them."

David St Hubbins has been managing hip-hop artists such as Milton Hynes: Big Fat Black Guy, working part-time at a sports department of a school and grew a beard to write the self-help book Be Your Own Me.

Nigel Tufnel is currently breeding miniature horses that he wants to race but needs to find jockeys that are 26-inches tall which is making it very difficult. He also invented the folding wine glass but so far it has failed commercially.

Derek Smalls has been in rehab for addiction to the internet. He has also been working on a 45-minute version of Jazz Odyssey which appears on the new album in three sections. He spent years trying to grow and develop a black carnation, but is now marketing Derek's Big Bottom Burgers made from "100% beef product".

The band members give frank and honest interviews about why they decided to get back together to tour and record new material:

David: "We weren't even speaking to each other, then someone made us an offer and we thought 'well, a good a time to sell-out is when you've got a buyer'."

They talk about the highs and the lows of their lives over the last few years –

Derek: "I had a bad divorce but I've heard recently that she ate the Koi carp and is now living in the Lamborghini."

We also hear from other contributors and the effect and influence Spinal Tap have had on their music, including Jarvis Cocker: "A lot of people rightly concentrate on Tap's music but for me the lyrics of Big Bottom really opened my eyes because when I began touring myself, well... I came across a lot of big bottoms."

Back From The Dead – The Return Of Spinal Tap premiered on Saturday 20 June 2009 at 10.00pm on Radio 2.
Next Week In Rock Band: This Is New Spinal Tap [Harmonix]
Faux rockers Spinal Tap are releasing Back From The Dead on June 16th and Harmonix is on point, with three songs from the new album hitting Rock Band next week, along with a little Evanescence.

"Back from the Dead," Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare" and "Warmer Than Hell" comprise three of the four tracks in the Spinal Tap Pack, along with "Saucy Jack", a song about Jack the Ripper previously only available on the band's website. The pack is promoting the new combination album and DVD release, which will be punctuated by a live reunion concert at London's Wembley Arena on June 30. Bassist Derek Smalls comments on the track pack.

"Tap has always gone where the audience is. We hope this time the audience reciprocates. Whatever that means."

For those of you who take your music a little more seriously, next week also sees the release of the Evanescence Track Pack, featuring two songs from The Open Door - "Call Me When You're Sober" and "Weight of the World" - along with their smash hit "Bring Me To Life", which is one of those songs you just assume was already in Rock Band.

Both packs will be available on June 16th for the Xbox 360 and June 18th for the PlayStation 3.

Somehow I got through this entire post without making a "goes to 11" reference. I think I deserve pizza.

Spinal Tap say they will reform for the Glastonbury Festival
Mirror.co.uk
Legendary mockumentary heavy metallers Spinal Tap have said they will be appearing at this June's Glastonbury Festival - Saturday June 25.

Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer will be rocking the Festival 'Unwigged and Unplugged', they revealed in an interview in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Twenty-five year's ago as David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls, they appeared in the cult comedy classic film This Is Spinal Tap, showcasing tunes like Big Bottom and Listen to the Flower People.

Christopher Guest better known to 'Tap' fans as Nigel Tufnel said in the interview: "We originally thought about doing a full-blown 'Tap' tour this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the film's release.

"But that would have been a very big deal in terms of show production, requiring a lot of effects, two 18-wheelers full of equipment, a tour bus.

"To be honest, we couldn't get that together. But we will do a couple of 'Tap' shows in Britain, at Wembley Arena and the Glastonbury Festival."

The band last reformed in 2007 to play the Live Earth Concert at Wembley Stadium to show their support for Global Warming.

The band's appearance at this year's Festival has not been officially confirmed by Festival organisers.

Tickets have sold out for this year's Glastonbury Festival which runs throughout the five full days from Wednesday 24th until Sunday 28th June 2009 at Worthy Farm, Somerset.

The only acts officially confirmed so far to play at the festival are Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band as Saturday night headliner, with Blur and Neil Young as the other headliners, plus Kasabian, Doves, White Lies, Echo and the Bunnymen, Fleet Foxes, Emiliana Torrini, Florence & The Machine, Lily Allen, The Ting Tings, and Franz Ferdinand.

SPINAL TAP is
"BACK FROM THE DEAD"
and CELEBRATING with
NEW ALBUM RELEASE ON JUNE 16, 2009
Album includes 19 songs and hour-long DVD

(LOS ANGELES, CA – May 1, 2009)  – This year marks the 25th anniversary of the cult classic film "This is Spinal Tap" and now England's Loudest Heavy Metal Band, SPINAL TAP, is celebrating with the release of their first new album in almost two decades, Back From The Dead (The Label Industry Records/Artist2Market/INgrooves). Street date is Tuesday, June 16, 2009. SPINAL TAP's last album was 1992's Break Like The Wind.

On Back From the Dead, Tap members David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls unearth their long-self-suppressed studio versions of the classic songs from the movie "This is Spinal Tap," as well as six new additional songs, and an exclusive hour long accompanying DVD featuring a track-by-track video commentary by the band. Back From The Dead also features guest appearances by Phil Collen, Keith Emerson, John Mayer and Steve Vai. "This album title says it all.  We're back from the dead.  But we weren't dead.  But we definitely are back," proclaimed Hubbins.

Back From The Dead is a deluxe CD/DVD package aggressively priced and containing 19 original Spinal Tap songs, a one-hour DVD and unique pop-up diorama package that unveils three 12-inch action figures (courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles) of the band along with a proportionally sized Stonehenge. Back From The Dead is destined to be a collector's item, especially among collectors.

The new album includes the newly interpreted Tap classics 'Hell Hole,' 'Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight,' 'Heavy Duty,' 'Rock 'n' Roll Creation,' 'America,' 'Cups and Cakes,' 'Big Bottom,' 'Sex Farm,' 'Stonehenge,' 'Gimme Some Money' and '(Listen to the) Flower People.'

"While the movie and soundtrack accurately represented our stage sound at the time, the studio versions of these songs on this album represent the cosmic maturation of the material, within a digital context.  Also, they're louder," stated Smalls.

The new songs recorded specifically for Back From The Dead include 'Warmer Than Hell,' 'Short and Sweet,' 'Celtic Blues,' Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare,' 'Back From The Dead' and "the first known studio recording of the soon-to-be-long-forgotten 'Jazz Oddyssey.'"

Back From The Dead once again shows SPINAL TAP defies categorization, hop scotching from genre to genre all with moments of brilliance. The album is that perfect combination of Loudness, Vulgarity and a pinch of Evil. Back From the Dead promises to finally give SPINAL TAP their rightful place in history as "The true unsung and misunderstood geniuses of Rock 'n' Roll" and they dedicate this new album to all those metal titans the world has come to love—or at least tolerate.

Back From The Dead was produced by CJ Vanston, who arranged and played keyboards on the band's Break Like The Wind album and was musical director for their 1992, 2000 and 2007 tours. As a film composer, he has produced music for Christopher Guest's movies "Waiting For Guffman," "Best In Show," "A Mighty Wind," and "For Your Consideration."

The Back From The Dead deluxe CD/DVD package is being distributed completely outside of the traditional major label infrastructure. Retail distribution and marketing of physical CDs will be handled by Artist2Market (A2M) while digital marketing and distribution will be serviced by INgrooves.

There are also rumors that there will be exclusive versions of 'Sex Farm' and '(Listen to the) Flower People' available on certain digital outlets – stay tuned.

And if that is not enough, the band will be releasing a very special 11 inch, limited edition vinyl version of Back From The Dead.

About Spinal Tap - SPINAL TAP formed in 1964 when good friends David St. Hubbins and Nigel Tufnel joined forces and formed The Originals. After finding out that there was already a group with that title, they would go through a series of name changes until finally joining up with bassist Ronnie Pudding and drummer John "Stumpy" Pepys, becoming The Thamesmen. After releasing two minor hit singles, 'Gimme Some Money' and 'Cups and Cakes,' Pudding left to form Pudding People and was replaced by Derek Smalls. With this line-up, the band recorded '(Listen to the) Flower People.'  A surprise hit, the single went gold in the United Kingdom and the band toured worldwide.

SPINAL TAP's 1982 tour in support of the album 'Smell The Glove' was captured on film by director Marty Di Bergi resulting in the documentary "This Is Spinal Tap," which the band immediately labeled a "hatchet job" and "character assassination."

In 1992, when SPINAL TAP seemed almost forgotten, they re-formed and returned to the spotlight along with a new album Break Like The Wind. In 2007, the band reunited to play the Live Earth Concert at Wembley Stadium in London to show their support for Global Warming. On June 30, 2009, SPINAL TAP will reunite once again for their 'One Night Only World Tour' at London's Wembley Arena.

Re: 2009 concert tour

Gentlemen:

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news:
Your 2009 "Unstoppable" tour has been cancelled.
The poor economy plays a role in this decision, as
does the band's history, pertaining to shows.

The good news:
Much of your repertoire will be performed in a concert
setting this spring in the Guest/McKean/Shearer "Unwigged and Unplugged"
tour across the U.S. If you're interested, we can probably get you a
limited number of seats.

More information is available at www.unwigged.com

Our best to your "families".

Sincerely,
Nathan Goniff
